Windows 8: Is it a Game Changer?

Microsoft will be releasing the latest version of their Windows operating system, Windows 8, later this year. This OS is unlike any version of Windows we have come to know. How? It’s designed with mobile devices (smartphones, tablets) in mind.
According to the Microsoft website, “It's Windows re-imagined and reinvented from a solid core of Windows 7 speed and reliability. It's an all-new touch interface. It's a new Windows for new devices.”
Metro User Interface One of Windows 8’s most hyped features is Microsoft’s Metro UI. The Metro UI has been used on Windows 7 phones and is also the layout of the Xbox 360 dashboard. The Metro UI features a new tile-based start screen that strongly resembles that of the Windows Phone. Each tile represents an application, and each of those tiles can display relevant data about the application, i.e. number of unread emails on the e-mail app, or the current weather on a weather app.
Other Features Aside from the Metro UI, Windows 8 will have a few new features such as “legacy”, which enables users to run non-Windows 8 apps from a Windows 7 style desktop. However, in the consumer preview of Windows 8, the start orb has been removed in favor of a "hotspot" in its place which lets you switch between your most recently used apps.

Double Credit for Your Summer Referrals
As you all know, the summer can be a tough time to find new business. It’s no different at IT Solutions. Traditionally, we meet with fewer potential clients in the summer for lots of reasons (people would rather take a vacation than talk to us). So this year we decided to make an offer to our existing clients that could help us both.
We normally offer $1,000 to any client that refers us to someone who becomes a client. We also offer $1,000 to the new client – to help make the point that almost all of our business comes through referral. But since the summer is so much quieter we’d like to double that offer between now and September 1st.
Any client that refers a new company to us between now and September 1st will receive a $2,000 credit if that company becomes a client at any point in the next year. And the company you refer will receive a $2,000 credit when they become a client, too.
We hope that this is the right incentive for you to reach into your contact list and pick out a few companies that you think we could help. If you feel that we’ve improved your business through technology, please let someone else know about us so that we can do the same for them. Thank you for your continued support!

Quick Tip: How to Use Field Codes in Microsoft Word 2010
Field codes are one of Microsoft Word’s key elements, frequently used by many users. If you have ever inserted a date or a page number to a document, you have used a field code. Despite their heavy use, many people are unaware of how they actually work.
What is a Field Code? A field code is “smart” text – when used, they can update when needed. There are hundreds of various codes for various purposes, one of the most common being the code for the current date – 29at24-Ti1824 Pictu??24. Any time the field updates, the information within the field updates.
What Do They Do? Field codes enable you to:
- Build a document automatically in response to information provided by the user.
- Insert information about the document into the document itself.
- Perform calculations.
